All for the late night curfew on youth

The fatal shooting of Aminulrasyid serves as a wake-up call to Malaysians, especially the parents, educators and authorities on a crucial problem of the youngsters - the trend of staying out late. Whatever the reason they have, the youngsters are not supposed to be out after midnights. They will not only subject to unnecessary risks, but also exposed to various vices, crimes and immoral activities.

There are various parties, such as the National Parents Teachers Association, who called for the national curfew to be imposed on youth below 18 from going out after midnight. This is not a new idea as such a curfew is already implemented by developed countries, e.g. Japan, German and Singapore. As developed countries, they must already did various research on the necessity and effectiveness of the program. Thus, I believe, it is wise to emulate the program in our country as a measure to respond to an urgent issue like this.

Opposing views from human right proponents are expected as usual. In the name of human right, we the normal people have to sacrifice our good life for the defiant group. I do not against the human right principles, definitely. But please use these principles for the benefit of the society at large. We should not use human right in everything because it will land us in trouble. Just imagine if everybody can do whatever they like in the name of human right. This world will turn into jungle!

Hence, I am calling everybody, especially the parents and educators to support the late night curfew on youth below 18. This measure will help us in educating the children to be good individuals. Without the curfew, we will be seen as backward as the culture now is promoting the night life. We really need the government support in bringing up a good future generation.

  1. I support your call. Parents nowadays have great difficulties in bringing up children because of too much negative influences from the surroundings. When parents do not allow them to go out at night, they will think that their parents are backward, because the surroundings are promoting the culture of staying out late. Thus, we really need support from the government to help us educate good culture among the children. Business communities also must play their role. Media must promote thru advertisement and film. 24-hour eateries also must be responsible by not allowing the teenagers to patron their outlet at midnight. It is best if the government could limit the business hour up to 10 pm. But if profit is so much to sacrifice, these business owners must contribute towards the society by ensuring teenagers don't use their place to loiter.
